Welcome to Pharmacy InFocus. We are pleased to be your dedicated source for all things related to your UnitedHealthcare prescription plan, as well as pharmacy news in general.
The lead article in this issue addresses how UnitedHealthcare manages certain specialty drugs under the medical benefit. This is a topic that has been getting a lot of attention lately, and rightfully so: specialty prescription medications are some of the most costly and fastest-growing of all drug classes. .
Our total health care approach rests on a combination of medical and pharmacy data that gives us broad insight into all aspects of member care. Take a few minutes to find out more about how our clients benefit from the total health care approach to managing specialty drug benefits.
We are also launching two new videos. One offers valuable insights into how we design and maintain our Prescription Drug List (PDL). In the second, one of our Optum nurses shows us how she uses our proprietary technology platform, eSyncSM, to identify potential gaps in care, safety concerns, or lack of compliance with treatment plans – and help members reduce potential health risks and lower overall plan costs.
Also in this issue find additional background on some upcoming changes to certain diabetes medications on our Advantage PDL. And the New Drug Snapshot rounds-out the issue with a quick survey of some of the significant drug launches of the year so far.
